Power Automate dateDifference() Function

Microsoft recently introduced a new function.

dateDifference()

It may seem trivial but it is not.

The functions in Power Automate help facilitate the workflow we are developing and make it more efficient (with fewer steps).

Until recently, we would have had to rely on the ticks() function, which is much more complex.

Using the new function, we can easily calculate the exact number of days between two dates.

In a workflow created in Power Automate, we can, for example, use the Compose action and perform the date calculation within it in the following way:

dateDifference(formatDateTime(utcNow(),’yyyy-MM-dd’), formatDateTime(triggerOutputs()?[‘enddate’],’yyyy-MM-dd’))

Advantages? Here they are:

💠 Automation of date calculations: The function allows automatic calculation of the difference between two dates, eliminating the need for manual calculations and reducing the risk of errors.

💠 Efficiency: Automating date difference calculations can speed up business processes, especially when managing deadlines, reminders, and schedules.

💠 Integration: The function can be easily integrated into various Power Automate workflows, making date management simpler in different contexts, such as project management, activity monitoring, and resource management.

💠 Customization: You can customize the date format and adapt the function to your specific needs, ensuring that calculations are always relevant and accurate.

💠 Reduction of manual work: Automating date difference calculations reduces manual work, allowing you to focus on more strategic and valuable activities.
